Lexington by Foot & Phone

Walking tours have always been one of our favorite activities when traveling.  Along the way, we discovered what makes a good tour (and what doesn't), and what a great resource these types of tours would be for Lexington.   Motivated by this, and faced with months on end of home-based activities, we decided that this was the perfect time to make walking tours of Lexington on modern audio, image and GPS location enabled mobile phones a reality.

With the assistance of her colleagues on the Historical Society's Interpretation Committee Marsha began the research and writing of a new tour focusing on the architecture of houses on Hancock Street.  Harry then built a web-based smartphone app making the walking tours accessible wherever you are because they are on the smartphone in your pocket.  Then the Battle Green Audio tour previously written, produced, and recorded by Marilyn Rae Beyer and Rick Beyer was enhanced with pictures and maps and converted to Harry's new app.

Attached below are excerpts from the Lexington Historical Society's announcement of Lexington by Foot & Phone, about the release of the first two tours:
  • Hancock St Architecture Walking Tour
  • Battle Green Walking Tour
Several other tours are in the works, so stay tuned over the coming months for additions.

Although intended to be used on a mobile phone, you can access these tours on any platform, as follows:
  • Access Lexington by Foot and Phone from a smartphone
  • Access Lexington by Foot and Phone from a laptop/desktop

We would love to get your feedback, questions, and corrections.  There is a Comments link on the home page that you can use to communicate with us.

As members of the Lexington Historical Society, we are happy to contribute to making Lexington a wonderful place for people to visit.  We think these Walking Tours are a great way for people to experience our historic and beautiful Town.
